The EU AI Act is now an execution issue, not just a legal headline. If your product has AI features used in the EU, teams need a clear operating model for risk classification, UX transparency, release gates, and incident readiness.

Here is the practical breakdown we recommend:

  • Treat every AI feature as a scoped compliance unit (not a generic platform checkbox)
  • Decide your role per feature (provider/deployer/importer/distributor)
  • Screen early for prohibited practices
  • Classify possible high-risk use cases before implementation
  • Ship clear AI transparency in the UI
  • Keep evidence and rollback paths ready before release

Concrete dev actions you can start this sprint:

  • Add an "AI feature card" template to your PR process (purpose, affected users, decision impact, role mapping, and risk path decision).
  • Add a release gate checklist item for prohibited-practice screening and evidence storage.
  • Add mandatory UI review for AI disclosures (chatbot notices, synthetic-media labels, locale checks).
  • Track model/provider version in deployment metadata so compliance evidence stays auditable after rollouts.
